10 music events to catch in Brisbane before the end of the G20 Cultural Celebrations!

The huge G20 Celebrations that have been taking over inner city Brisbane and its suburban surrounds is almost finished, but there is still so many great free events to be a part of! Some stellar music productions and gigs are scheduled to be happening throughout Brisbane in the final week of celebrations, 10 of which we've listed below!

The Medics at The HiFi

The Medics will be taking to The HiFi in West End, showcasing some new material from their forthcoming new album, as well as cuts from their acclaimed debut, Foundations. The boys from Cairns have fashioned for themselves an impressive career as recording artists and live musicians in a relatively short amount of time, earning a great reputation both in Australia and abroad. This is going to be a great opportunity to catch the band performing alongside Bunna Lawrie, as The Medics also pay respect to their culture and history on songs by Coloured Stone and Yothu Yindi. The event is free and 18+ on November 11th, with no bookings required!

Ed Kuepper & Blank Realm at The Triffid

The legendary Ed Kuepper brings his renowned live show to Brisbane's newest venue of The Triffid, supported by Blank Realm! As co-founder of The Saints, The Laughing Clowns and The Aint's, Kuepper has a huge catalogue of music to form a set from and there's no doubt fans will be leaving the venue satisfied! Kuepper plays The Triffid on November 12th, with doors opening from 7:30pm. The event is free and there are no bookings required!

Sampology & Friends at Yeronga Park Swimming Pool's 50th Anniversary

Sampology and some friends will be keeping the party going as the Yeronga Park Swimming Pool celebrates its 50th anniversary on November 16th! The all-ages summer pool party will see Sampology performing his new AV show, with Tom Thum, UV boi فوق بنفسجي, Wolf Wolf (live), Tyler Touche, Yale and Yumo joining him from noon until 8pm. Entry to the event is first come, first served, with the venue's capacity set to 1000. Bring your photo ID for access to the licensed area as well as your swimmers!

'The Soldier's Wife' at The Salvation Army City Temple & Kedron Wavell RSL

Eight local singers and songwriters have come together for this special production, which is taking place at The Salvation Army City Temple (1:30pm) and at the Kedron Wavell RSL Club (7:30pm) on November 11th. 'The Soldier's Wife' takes the audience on a journey with some military wives who will be telling their stories on Remembrance Day. With Legacy's support, 'The Soldier's Wife' seeks to move and inspire. The line up of artists involved includes: Roz Pappalardo, Jackie Marshall, Sahara Beck, Deb Suckling, Kirsty Apps, Emma Bosworth and Bertie Page. The event is free and for all ages, with under 18's to be accompanied by an adult.

Karl S. Williams and Kirsty Apps & The Shotgun Shirleys at The Zoo

As part of the 'Long Player Sessions' held at The Zoo during the G20 Celebrations, Karl S. Williams will be performing with Kirsty Apps & Shotgun Shirleys at the popular Brisbane venue on November 13th. A popular music series that has been held twice before, the Long Player Sessions format sees two artists/bands perform a classic album in full, plus some of their own tunes as well. This session will see Williams performing Leonard Cohen'sSongs of Love and Hate, while Kirsty and Shotgun Shirleys taking on The Indigo Girls' self titled album! The show is free, with no bookings required - 18+.

Women in Docs and Dozzi at the Samford Valley Hotel

The Samford Valley Hotel will be hosting Women In Docs and Dozzi on November 15th! Women In Docs, a local folk act, have frequently travelled abroad with their music, performing at events like SXSW and Canadian Music Week and have earned much popular acclaim as a result. Dozzi are as charming, the country sweethearts who have crafted a great live presence for themselves with their awesome harmonies and high energy performances making them an act to see.

Halfway, The Stormchasers & Harley and the Haymakers at the Sandgate Town Hall

The Sandgate Town Hall will be seeing Halfway, The Stormchasers and Harley and the Haymakers perform as part of 'The Town Hall Sessions' on November 15th! Halfway, the Brisbane eight-piece who have their latest album Any Old Love currently released to popular response and the Stormchasers, who've been proving themselves to be quite the dynamic touring act through 2014. With local Sandgate artist Harley Young also in the mix, this line up represents a perfect example of how the Brisbane music scene is producing such a great variety of bands in high frequency.

Kingfisha and Oka at The Belvedere Hotel

Kingfisha and Oka are set to fill the Belvedere Hotel will some excellent reggae and dub music on November 16th! From 3:30pm, 'The Redcliffe Sunday Nice Up' will be setting the perfect scene for the final day of the G20 Celebrations and your Sunday afternoon. Kingfisha will be returning to where it all began for them, no doubt performing a show worthy of a hometown reception. The event is free and 18+, though minors can attend if accompanied by an adult.

'The Blues. Used. Abused.' at The New Globe Theatre

On November 13th, The New Globe Theatre will host four acts who will be presenting their own take on the blues. A genre of music which has been around since the 19th century, the blues has always been an innovative form which has seen many artists fuse and recreate the music as they've been inspired in the decades since. For this event, The Royal Artillery, Brodie Graham, Deadweight Express and Dead Zephyr will be creating some amazing sounds. No bookings are required for this event, it's totally free!

'Bands in Parks' at Walton Bridge Reserve, The Gap & DM Henderson Park

Live music and a great variety of gourmet food has become essential to Brisbane's 'Bands in Parks' program and for the last weekend of the G20 Celebrations, they're going all out. At the Walton Bridge Reserve on November 15th, music supplied by Brass Roots, Still Standing and The Establishment will be kicking it, while there will also be an African drumming workshop available and a 'suitcase rummage market' open. On the 16th, DM Henderson Park at Macgregor will be hosting a range of free activities and entertainment courtesy of Sunnybank Brass. Feel free to bring your own picnic, though bear in mind these are alcohol-free events.
